What is UL 2849? Why It’s the Gold Standard for E-Bike Safety.

SGS Certification to UL 2849
SGS is a globally recognized testing, inspection, and certification organization and is officially recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) authorized to certify products to UL 2849, the Standard for Electrical Systems for E-Bikes.
SGS is one of only three NRTLs in the United States approved to certify e-bikes to UL 2849.
UL 2849–Certified Wired Ebikes Models

UL 2849 evaluates the entire electrical system as an integrated unit, including the battery, motor, controller, wiring, connectors, and charger — ensuring all components operate safely together under real-world conditions.
UL 2271 Battery Certification (All Models)
In addition to full system certification, all Wired Ebikes battery systems — including both 60V and 72V platforms — are certified to UL 2271 standards.
UL 2271 applies specifically to lithium-ion battery packs and verifies compliance with stringent safety requirements related to:

Meeting Federal, State, and Local Safety Requirements
On December 20, 2022, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) formally called on manufacturers, retailers, importers, and distributors of micromobility devices to comply with established UL safety standards, including UL 2271 and UL 2849.

More recently, New York City enacted Local Law 31, requiring that all e-bikes sold or distributed within the city be certified by an accredited testing laboratory for compliance with UL 2849.

Industry-Leading Achievements in UL 2849 Certification
Wired Ebikes was the first company in the e-bike industry to achieve full UL 2849 certification on a 60-volt electrical system through a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.
In addition, Wired Ebikes is the only company to have a 72-volt Power Performance Bike (PPB) certified to UL 2849.
Achieving UL 2849 certification at higher voltages represents a significant engineering challenge due to increased electrical, thermal, and fault-protection requirements.
